Abstract

This research work examined the determinants of choice of fish products consumption among the households in Ibarapa area of Oyo State. Multi-stage sampling was used in selection of households in proportion to population. The study used structured questionnaire to generate relevant information socio-economic on characteristics of the respondents, fish quantity, price of fish, fish substitutes, quantity of substitutes and household preference. Descriptive statistics (such as mean, standard deviation and frequency table) and multinomial regression were used as analytical tools. The study reveals that fresh fish choice was influenced by age, employment status and income of the respondents of the area. Smoked fish was found to be affected positively by gender, education and smoked fish price. Also fried fish was a function of marital status, education and fried fish price. While dried fish was influenced by gender and price of fish substitutes in the study area. Therefore, paper recommends enabling environment should be stimulated in the study area, to promote economic activities and lead to job creation and employment through which more income would be earned by the respondents.
